What is Symbol Block?

Symbol Block allows you to restrict order entry for individual trading symbols in your account’s Risk Settings. For example, you can block /ES, the S&P 500 E-mini futures symbol, from being traded on the account.

A Symbol Block is an account-level setting intended to support a client’s personal trading and risk-management process. It does not eliminate the risks of futures trading or guarantee any trading outcome.

How to block a symbol

  1. In TopstepX, open Settings.

  2. Select Risk Settings.

  3. Scroll to the Symbol Blocks section.

  4. Use the dropdown to select or search for the symbol you want to block.

  5. Select Add Block.

  6. Select Save to apply your changes.

After saving, the symbol appears in the Current Symbol Blocks list. You will no longer be able to place orders for that symbol while it remains blocked.

How to unblock a symbol

To trade a blocked symbol again, return to Settings > Risk Settings and remove it from the Current Symbol Blocks list. Then save your updated settings. A blocked symbol remains unavailable for order entry until you manually unblock it.

Why This Matters

Symbol Block lets traders customize which products are available for trading in an account. By restricting selected symbols before placing an order, traders can apply their own account preferences consistently.
