Personal Daily Profit Target

A Personal Daily Profit Target (PDPT) is an optional risk-management setting that lets you establish a daily net profit threshold for your TopstepX account. When your account reaches that threshold, TopstepX can liquidate open positions or liquidate positions and block trading for the remainder of the trading day.

What is a Personal Daily Profit Target?

A Personal Daily Profit Target is based on your account’s real-time net profit and loss (P&L) during the trading day. It is an optional setting that allows you to define a daily profit threshold for your trading activity.

PDPT is a platform tool and does not guarantee profits or prevent losses. Futures trading involves substantial risk, and market conditions and order execution can affect results.

How to set a PDPT

  1. In TopstepX, open Settings.

  2. Select Risk Settings.

  3. Select and enter a dollar amount in the Personal Daily Profit Target field.

  4. Choose a PDPT Action.

  5. Save your settings.

When PDPT is enabled, a PDPT gauge appears in the platform header. The gauge updates in relation to your real-time net P&L and selected target.

Choose a PDPT action

PDPT Action

What happens when the target is reached

Do Nothing

PDPT is disabled.

Liquidate

TopstepX liquidates all open positions. The PDPT action then resets to Do Nothing.

Liquidate and Block

TopstepX liquidates all open positions and blocks the account from trading until the next trading day.

These options are available in the TopstepX Personal Daily Profit Target settings.

Important note about Liquidate and Block

A Liquidate and Block action cannot be reversed after it is triggered. The account will remain blocked from trading until the next trading day.

Review your target and selected action before saving. A PDPT is intended to support a trader’s personal risk-management process; it does not eliminate the risks associated with futures trading.

Why This Matters

A predefined daily profit threshold can help traders apply a consistent, self-directed approach to managing an open trading day. Selecting an action in advance establishes how TopstepX will respond when the account reaches the selected target.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does PDPT use realized or unrealized P&L?

    • PDPT is calculated using net profit and loss in real time, so it responds as your daily net P&L changes.

  • What happens if I select Liquidate?

    • When the PDPT threshold is reached, all positions in the account are liquidated. The action then resets to Do Nothing.

  • Can I trade again after Liquidate and Block is triggered?

    • No. The account is blocked from trading until the next trading day, and the block cannot be reversed.

  • Is PDPT required?

    • No. Selecting Do Nothing disables PDPT functionality.
